Slipping between crisp sheets is so comforting somehow and there’s nothing quite like a well-made bed to make a bedroom feel inviting. Unfortunately, most of us don’t have the time to spend hours caring for our linens and this is especially true for caregivers who are responsible for a loved one.
Because of their material and relatively large size, Bed Sheets tend to wrinkle more than most linens. Fortunately, this is an area where some easy care can save you a lot of effort ironing.
Sheets with a higher thread count are usually softer, smoother, and prone to wrinkling!
Sheets with lower thread counts are less likely to wrinkle. Polyester and other synthetic blends often are designed to reduce wrinkling. This comes at a cost however as these sheets are usually considered less comfortable.
Interlock and Jersey Knit sheets rarely wrinkle because of the great stretch of their knit. Jersey Knit sheets are usually thinner than Interlock knit sheets and have less stretch. Pique Knit sheets tend to wrinkle badly unless specially treated with a wrinkle-free finish.
Sheets of blended materials, such as a polyester and cotton, tend to be very durable, do not shrink when washed, and generally dry very quickly with less wrinkling. If convenience is important, a blend is probably the right choice in material.
Fabrics often bunch in the wash. To prevent this, wash sheets alone if possible or with a similar weight of fabric. Always wash sheets in Cold Water to prevent wear and tear, this is safe as modern detergents are designed to clean fabric even without hot water.
When a sheet sits in a dryer and becomes wrinkled, try drying it with a damp cloth for another five to ten minutes.
Hanging sheets outside to dry helps to prevent wrinkles from forming but is often impractical. When using a dryer, set the machine on the lowest heat setting and remove the sheets while they are still very slightly moist and before wrinkles have set in. Always avoid overloading the dryer when drying sheets. When possible, dry them alone as this prevents twisting and further wrinkling.
Sheets should be neatly folded as soon as they are dry; as they are folded they should be smoothed and press down on.
For a presentation quick fix, try ironing just the top portion of the sheet that folds over the bed spread and the pillow cases.
Cheerful Pastel colors brighten a bedroom and offer a creative alternative to the standard white sheets usually available for hospital beds.
The soft and breathable Jersey Knit fitted sheet provides excellent skin comfort. The extra stretchy material helps prevent slipping when the bed is raised and lowered.
